Dorfman Doctoral Student Support Award

Purpose

WRIA has named its doctoral student best research paper award in honor of the memory of former WRIA President Mark Dorfman who passed away in December, 2006.

This competitive award is given to doctoral students who present their completed research paper at a WRIA annual meeting.  This monetary award would be in addition to the waiver of the registration fee received by all doctoral students presenting at the conference.

Application Process and Timeline

As stated in the Call for Papers for the Annual Meeting, interested applicants should submit a completed research paper and the items detailed below to the Program Chair by the conference submission deadline. Papers already accepted for publication may not be submitted. To be considered for the Dorfman Doctoral Student Support Award, doctoral students need to submit and complete the following items:

  1. Submit a completed research paper as their paper submission for the annual meeting.
  2. Submit a statement of interest indicating their desire to be considered for the Dorfman Award by the conference submission deadline.
  3. Submit a letter signed by their supervisor, on University letterhead, verifying their student status and level of involvement on the paper by the conference submission deadline.
  4. Actively participate in the conference and present their completed research paper at the WRIA Annual Meeting.

A WRIA committee will assess the submitted research papers in conjunction with the normal review process for the annual meeting
The award winner(s) will be announced at the WRIA Annual Meeting. Please note that, as a condition of the award, successful applicants are expected to actively participate in the conference in addition to presenting their research at the WRIA Annual Meeting.

Please contact the President-Elect of WRIA with any additional questions. Contact information is provided on the main WRIA webpage.
